  • The New Accolade Laser: Even Skin Tone in a Flash

Those brown spots across your forehead and cheeks. That tattoo you decided to get in college that now sits on your arm as a painful reminder of past bad decisions. Those freckles that were cute when you were 11, but now are simply a pest. All of these cosmetic enemies to perfect skin can now be zapped away with the pulse of the Accolade laser, the latest device from Cynosure, a leader in cosmetic laser applications.

The Accolade is a high-powered, Q-switched Alexandrite laser that provides fast treatment for removing benign epidermal and dermal pigmented lesions, such as freckles, acquired dermal melanocytosis, nevus of ota and multicolored tattoos. The Accolade successfully targets unwanted pigment in the skin, removing the discoloration, leaving smooth tone and healthy-looking skin behind.

    Safe, Effective Treatment

According to Cynosure, the Accolade laser treatment only takes about 20 minutes, though multiple treatment sessions may be needed to be fully satisfied with your results. Downtime is minimal with Accolade laser treatment, though you should consult with your physician to understand your post-care instructions and when follow-up treatments should be scheduled. For tattoo removal, multiple treatment sessions are usually necessary and will need to be spaced out over 6 to 8 weeks.

    The Technology

Q-switched Alexandrite lasers are highly effective at removing tattoos, and have been in use for some time. "The Q-switched alexandrite laser offers the best wavelength currently available for efficient tattoo removal, safely removing the tattoo pigment with a low likelihood of post-treatment pigmentary anomalies for most patients," says Dr. Ben Treen. In the Accolade a fiber delivered high-powered Q-switched pulse is available through a variety of spot sizes. Small spot sizes can be used for high fluence treatment of dermal pigmented lesions and tattoos, medium spot sizes for efficient treatment of tattoos and epidermal pigmented lesions and large spot sizes for low fluence treatments for larger areas of the skin with pigmentation.
