The Asarch Center, located in Englewood, Colorado, provides patients with the latest dermatology information, skin care products, and proven medical treatments to keep their skin as healthy as possible. Just as we have learned to eat healthy and to exercise to stay fit, we need to give our skin the same kind of constant care and nutrition.
Many find freckles, or ‘ephelides’ as they are called in dermatology, cute. Often they are harmless little brown specks around our nose or cheeks. They are the result of sun exposure and an attempt by our skin to respond to this exposure by packaging melanin pigment to absorb the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Unfortunately in skin that has developed freckles our skin has not packaged this melanin properly and this is displayed as a ‘freckle’.
Removing freckles is a fairly straightforward process and laser treatment is highly effective for treating them. You should see a dermatologist before having any brown spots removed as they may have the potential to be cancerous. A dermatologist can check them to be sure they can be safely removed.
