Many find freckles, or ‘ephelides’ as they are called in dermatology, cute. Often they are harmless little brown specks around our nose or cheeks. They are the result of sun exposure and an attempt by our skin to respond to this exposure by packaging melanin pigment to absorb the ultraviolet rays of the sun. Unfortunately in skin that has developed freckles our skin has not packaged this melanin properly and this is displayed as a ‘freckle’.
Removing freckles is a fairly straightforward process and laser treatment is highly effective for treating them. You should see a dermatologist before having any brown spots removed as they may have the potential to be cancerous. A dermatologist can check them to be sure they can be safely removed.

First of all, I was really impressed with Dr. Pilest's web site. I learned some very important points even before seeing him. Second, his consultation with me was very complete. After 3 children and a body I want to hide, I was dreading baring my belly. But, he made me immediately comfortable and explained not only WHY I had stretch marks, but the difference in the old ones and the new ones, what I'd have to do to prepare for laser treatments since I've got some dark skin ancestry (no one ever asked me about that before or explained why it was important!)
We're tackling the red marks first with Vmax laser and I've seen some very obvious improvements after just a couple of sessions. Later we'll get into the white marks with Fraxel. I know what to expect (apparently no miracles here) but I appreciate the candid assessment. It's nice to know the limitations.
The nursing staff is the best. Joanne spent plenty of time reassuring me, re-explaining the process and generally being a professional hand holder.
I feel very confident and comfortable with Dr. Pilest.
